Since 1996, Second Step Housing has been working to help eliminate homelessness in Clark County. As a community based non-profit organization in Vancouver, Washington, Second Step Housing exists to foster self-sufficiency for at-risk and homeless women and children. Second Step Housing connects affordable housing with vital services provided by Second Step Housing and their community partners to combat the causes of poverty and homelessness.

In order to foster and sustain self-sufficiency, Second Step Housing supports its two-year transitional housing program with: One-on-One Case Management, Life Skills Training (Including Tenant/Rental Education, Financial Literacy, Self-care, Nutrition, Health and Fitness programs), Parenting Classes, Women Helping Women Mentoring Program, Yards and Gardens Program, Empowerment Workshops and Career and Education counseling.

Second Step Housing serves a very high-risk population.  The average age is 26 years old, 70% have children in their custody, 54% are fleeing domestic violence, 93% are in recovery for substance abuse and 36% have been diagnosed with a mental illness.
